COVID- 19: CNI Gives Out Preventive Materials Worth Thousand of Naira to Rural Dwellers in Epe

Concerned Nation Builders Initiative (CNI), an NGO, had on Monday 30th March, 2020, gave out preventive materials to people in the rural areas of Epe to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the community.

The community development-centred NGO gave out the relief materials as part of its outdoor outreach programmes to the rural dwellers.

The kits that were donated include; face masks, hand gloves, sanitizers, health talks among several others.

According to the National Coordinator of the NGO, Mr. Idris Tele-Olukoya, the gesture was to reach out to the people in the rural communities.

“The action is to complement government’s efforts and also support in the fight against Covid-19 in the country.

“Average people living in the rural communities live below the water, in the section 14 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“The community service is to ease the suffering of the people in the rural areas and educate them adequately on how to keep safe during this pandemic period by staying at home, ” Tele-Olukoya said.

Speaking with the village head, Mr. Blessing Adelaja, he said that the village was not aware of the Coronavirus pandemic since they have no mass media to get information from.

He expressed displeasure about the neglect of rural dwellers by the government, private and public organizations.

“The community only get government’s attention during general elections which holds every four years.

“We lack basic necessities in the village, which is discouraging” .

“I implore government at all level to consider rural dwellers in their developmental agenda”.

“We are voters, we are citizens of the country, we are entitled to dividends of democracy, ” he said.

The people in the community yearned for sustainable use of their environment, as enshrined in UN’s section 14 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The hospitable locals pleaded to government, well-meaning Nigerians and bigwigs/indigenes of Epe to come to their aid with food stuffs to alleviate their suffering as Lagos State, is on lock down.

Mr. Kaka Babatunde, a member of CNI, expressed delight at the opportunity to selflessly serve humanity.

He was of the view that the humanitarian service was adventurous and impactful.

Babatunde, therefore, called on the government, private organizations and well meaning individuals to invest in Epe’s rich aquatic potential, which is home to vast water bodies.

Earlier, Miss Zainab Olarenwaju, a member of CNI, said the fish farming and tourism potentials of the rural communities should be explored as it will be a source of huge revenue generation for investors and government alike.

Also, Mr. Titilayo Adebanjo, a member of CNI team, urged the government to build health facilities in the coastal areas.

He noted that the rural dwellers does not have access to health facilities which is not encouraging.

Adebanjo, appealed to authorities concerned to remember people in the rural areas, as they are being denied their right to feel the presence of the government.
