COVID-19: Cross River Bans Religious Gathering Of Over 5 Persons

The Cross River State Government has again reminded its citizens, most especially those in the Christian faith about the earlier directives of stay-at-home order issued by Governor Ben Ayade.

The Senior Special Adviser to the state governor on Religious Matters, Fr. Bob B. Etta in a recent statement in Calabar, the capital city of the state, threatens that the government will seal up any worship centre with a congregration of more than five on Sunday, March 29.

According to Etta, a task force has been set up and would be mobilized to go round on Sunday to ensure that the directives are duly obeyed.

Fr Edu said, “A Taskforce will be going around the State to monitor compliance. Any church caught will be sealed.”

“The statement was to remind all Ecclesiastical leaders about the Governor’s directives on COVID-19 and in consonance with the adoption of the directives by the Christian Association of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter.” He said.

“All Religious gathering with more than 5 persons are suspended in Cross River State. As Religious leaders, it is our responsibility to protect the lives of our followers. Let’s demonstrate that commitment this Sunday,” he stated.

He reiterates that the Church does not actually connote physical building, but the People.

“Though our doors are closed, our hearts are with God. Families are encouraged to hold their devotions at homes and Pray that God saves us from the impending doom.”

“As a People of Faith, let’s storm the Heavens with our Prayers. May God hear us, amen,” he concluded.
