COVID-19: Eko Hot Blog Publisher Commends Lagos Govt Palliatives Program
The publisher of Ekohotblog, Otunba T J Abass has commended the efforts of the Lagos state government towards mitigating the effects of the lockdown occassioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Otunba Abass gave the commendation in Ikeja, the state capital, when he received the relief package put in place by the government to cushion the effect of the COVID-19.
He extolled the Seamless and smooth manner with which the distribution was done.
Otunba also showered encomium on the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the state’s handling of the pandemic.
He urged the governor not to relax the lockdown imposed on the state as that could detract from the inroad the state has made in its battle against the virulent infection, he called the attention of the governor to what became of Ghana who relaxed the lockdown and suffered spike in cases.
He also made reference to the morbid events that’s unfolding in Kano where plethora of people have died from strange illness.
He however implored the state government to scale up it social intervention and palliative measures so as to reach the needy and downtrodden.
Otunba also weighs in on the surge of cases across the country, he underscores the importance of the president Muhammadu Buhari imminent nationwide broadcast, saying the decision of the president later on today is key to how the country fight against the pandemic will turn out to be.
Otunba shared his experience “When I received a call on a Sunday afternoon that I should report at Ikeja local government to collect the package, that provided an opportunity to assess its efficiency and otherwise well-intentioned intervention.
” On arrival and upon presentation of my LASTRA card and verification with the register, I was handed over a black bag. I don’t know the contents nor did I even bother to open it because I ended up giving the package to another person that truly needs it. I was just excited about being a witness to an administration’s demonstration of care, and it was because of this that I duly followed all the laid-down protocols.
“For example, I was asked to append my signature in a register which had the names of all the recipients.
” I took a picture with the coordinator as evidence that I appeared in person to collect the items, protocols that ordinarily would have elicited some resentment.
” Suffice it to say that it was well planned and well-executed and it never mattered what you were asked to do.
” You can now understand why I began by acknowledging the state government efforts, and affirming that the palliative programme is no doubt a success. I was a beneficiary.”
