By: Idris Tele-Olukoya

A non- governmental association,  Epe Club 70’s, on Thursday, embarked on free food distribution drive for old and the needy within  the community as part of their  community social responsibility during restriction of movement directive by government.

Mr Ibrahim Sanuth, the Club President, said that the support was part of measures took by the Club to alleviate the suffering of residents under the period of stay at home syndrome due to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Sanuth said that the support was also to ensure that people were not too burdened by the closure of businesses and trade activities, which might have been their source of daily income before the issuance of the directive.

Epe Club 70s’ is an indigenous social club founded in Epe on Tuesday 30th December  2003 by a group of childhood friends from across the constituents of Epe Administrative Division with the primary aim of fostering harmonious relationship among childhood friends and to in no little way contribute to socio-economic and development of the division in particular and Lagos State in general.

The intervention programme of Epe Club 70s’ came up on Thursday 9th April at the Cub house along Ayetoro Road, Epe Lagos State. Identified less privileged people who have the strength to come to the Club House were given the food packs individually after which the club members decided to take the palliatives to the old and weak people who may find it stressful to come to the Club House.

The President of the Club, MD Sanuth  while addressing the press reiterated that the welfare of his people is of paramount interest to the club hence the resolve of the club to organise the food distribution to complement the government efforts.

Further, he gave big kudos to the entire members of the club for believing in his leadership and for their financial, moral and physical presence at this important exercise.

The Vice President DM Hassan A. N. while corroborating the President advised all Nigerians to comply with all the rules and regulations to curb further spread of Coronavirus. HE advised all and sundry to compky with the international best practice, NCDC, Lagos State Government and the Ministry of Health.

Its worthy to note that just two days ago, Tuesday 7th April 2020, a member of the Club DM Edward Sunday Ogunkoya all the way from United Kingdom did a spectacular birthday. Rather than organising a birthday bash decided to distribute food palliatives to old members of his immediate native town of Odo-Egiri, Epe.

The beneficiaries showed sincere gratitude to the club for the timely intervention and prayed that God will bless the entire members of the club for showing rare kindness to their people at a hard time like this.

The Social Secretary of the Club, DM Oniga Olaseni while addressing the beneficiaries informed that the Club is on another big CSR to all the Health Centres in the entire Epe division as part of a 4-in-1 event of the Club which was postponed indefinitely in compliance with the social distancing rule of the government.
