EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Federal Government (FG) has placed Lagos State and six others on red alert following the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The latest development was made known by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of Presidential Steering Committee (PSC), Boss Mustapha, in Abuja on Monday.
Mustapha said the affected states are Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Rivers, Kano, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking at the national briefing of the PSC on Monday, Mustapha, who stated that more African countries have been reporting more fresh cases of COVID-19, said that Nigeria has recorded about 500 cases daily in the last seven days.
The PSC Chairman added that Lagos alone accounts for over 50 percent of the cases, saying the latest development calls for great caution.

Mustapha further disclosed that the PSC is ready to publish over 500 travelers who violated the travel protocol and those who evaded quarantine this week.
The SGF added that those who had their passports barred for six months will be lifted in the coming days.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Mustapha, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to keep observing the Non-Pharmaceutical Intervention (NPIs) and also ensure they are vaccinated, saying, “Vaccination prevents severe cases and reduces hospitalisation and deaths, but does not eliminate contracting it, hence the need to religiously observe the NPIs.”
