The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has pleaded to the President Muhammadu Buhari to take urgent steps, as regards the deadly coronavirus devouring the state.
Ganduje who has denied the claim of mass burial in Kano a few days ago have now reached out for help as the state cases stands at 77, making them the third-highest toll.
This is coming yet as the state recorded frightening deaths of about 20 prominent people in 24 hours.
The Governor, however, explained that they are on top of the situation as it unfolds but there’s a need for the federal government to put up a testing machine in Kano state.
He said that the samples taken are transported to Abuja for testing and some of them get wasted, requiring them to look for another sample of such. He also explained that it takes 7 hours to get the results of the samples because they are transported to Abuja.
The Governor ascertained that nobody that tested positive is in serious need of ventilator, hence the situation is still manageable. He, however, added that ten mobile courts have been put in place to punish violators of the total lockdown order.
Dr Tijjani Hussain, the State Coordinator COVID-19 Rapids Response, explained that the NCDC centre at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital have been placed on lock as it is currently undergoing fumigation for 74 hours.
He explained 44 suspected case were confirmed, bringing the total suspects whose samples were taken to Abuja to 489, with 74 confirmed positives.
Governor Ganduje upheld that total lockdown is the only option the state has currently, and he pleaded to the federal government to come to their aid.
He said, “We are appealing to the federal government to as they support Lagos and Ogun States also come to the rescue of Kano State quickly.”
Ganduje also said the state will soon begin the second phase of distribution of palliatives targeting 50,000 households, estimated to cost over N600million.
