COVID-19: Malaysian King, Queen Quarantined As 7 Palace Workers Test Positive

Malaysia’s King and Queen have been quarantined after seven palace staff members from Istana Negara tested positive for coronavirus.

King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and his wife Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have both tested negative for the infection, but they decided to go on self-quarantine for 14 days, beginning Wednesday, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the Comptroller of the Royal Household said in a statement.

He also said that all seven staff members are currently receiving treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and they are in stable condition.

The palace statement also said that all close contacts and relevant staff members have been instructed to take the COVID-19 test.

“To ensure that exposure to the virus can be controlled and curbed at Istana Negara, all close contact and the relevant staff members have been instructed to quarantine for 14 days”.

The Health Ministry is currently identifying the source of infection for the staff members.

Malaysia has more than 2,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 235 reported on Thursday. 21 people have also died from the disease.
