There is very little doubt that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Lagos State Government, in line with its THEMES agenda, is making tremendous strides in healthcare delivery, in spite of the daunting challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Otunba TJ Abass, a COVID-19 survivor who credited his recovery to the professionalism of the good doctors at the Yaba Mainland Hospital stated this in a footage recorded moments before undergoing yet another COVID-19 test at a testing centre in Houston, Texas.
“I contracted the virus sometime in January, and I battled the virus for about six weeks. Thanks to the good doctors at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, led by Doctor Bowale and some other good people there, I was able to recover fully,” he said.
This asseveration, however, echoes no differently from testimonies from dozens of recovered patients who have all testified to the expertise and dedication of the physicians at the Yaba Mainland Hospital, which, without gainsaying, ranks among the best COVID-19 centres in the country.
When the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu drew up his THEMES project as the blueprint to hoist the state towards becoming a 21st century economy, he certainly did not envisage an outbreak of a lethal virus within his first year in office. However, his administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in view of the population density of the State and the propensity of the virus to wreak more damage in densely populated geographies, underscores the governor’s administrative tact and savviness.
As echoed by TJ Abass in the footage, the fight against this unseen enemy is far from over, as many countries are still battling third and fourth waves of the pandemic; a fourth wave of the pandemic which has seen the emergence of the Delta variant of the virus, engineered to possess a more deleterious effect than its previous strain.

“It is just an attestation that this virus is real. The threat is real, and is still very much with us. We should not think that it has subsided or gone away.”
Prevention, as often said in the popular axiom, is always better than cure. Therefore, it is of utmost imperativeness that to leverage on the efforts of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu government in shrinking the pernicious effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we must all take responsibility by complying to recommended safety protocols by health experts.
