COVID-19: Sporting Activities Remain Suspended -Eti Osa LGA
Eti Osa Local Government has postponed the resumption date of the league, adding that football management and other sports administration should wait for the state government directives.
While addressing the journalists yesterday at Elf Estate, Lekki, the leader of the council, Hon. Muftau Ogunderu said the rules of social distancing are still active in Lagos state, saying that all pre-league matches; leagues, and other sports activities should not come up until Lagos state is declared free of COVID-19.
He moved further to say that the present council administration knows that the organizers of the league are up to the task of providing all necessary medical gadgets to guide the players from derailing the medical paths, adding that doing this now is against the rules made by the state government.
“Protection of lives and property is our first priority in Eti Osa and we will not be happy with anyone that goes against that,” he said.
One of the stakeholders in sports activities and chief media officer to the council, Mr. Tokunbo Ajayi, said if the time to hold league reaches, everyone will know through the pronouncement of the state government that Lagos State is COVID-19 free off.
“Sports and other entertainment activities are food to the soul. It could only be food for a soul that still lives not for the dead soul,” he said.
One of the organizers of the proposed league, Mr. Lateef Camara, said the government had spoken and its intention is for the safety of generality, adding that no one will go against the rules.

“We appreciate the fact that the government has warned that no league should hold without the directives of the state government,” he said, “the warning is for our safety and to also maintain the integrity of Eti Osa in Lagos State.”
