- The Federal Government (FG) and state governors have spoken about a national lockdown in Nigeria over COVID-19 third wave.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Federal Government and state governors have said there is no indication of an imminent lockdown in Nigeria as the country prepares for the COVID-19 third wave.
The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this known while speaking to State House correspondents after a virtual National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Speaking, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that Osinbajo has assured that NEC would convene an emergency meeting on the COVID-19 third wave if became necessary.
EKO HOT BLOG recalls that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned the Federal Government of the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the country.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, however, said there will be a review on a weekly basis to assess the COVID-19 third wave, adding that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) are working with states to monitor daily happenings.
“We are preparing ourselves to ensure that as much as possible, we can very quickly flatten the curve.
“The chairman of the council (Osinbajo) mentioned to us that if there is a need for an emergency meeting, he will call one,” the governor stated.
