COVID-19 Vaccination: Ogun Takes Campaign To Parks, Garages

As part of efforts to ensure Ogun State attain its 70 percent target and achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 pandemic, the Ogun State government has taken the mass vaccination campaign to parks and garages.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker who spoke during a campaign in Ilaro, said it would capture transport workers in garages across the State to ensure no eligible residents were left out of the vaccination exercise.

Coker, in a statement signed by Press Officers, Primary Health Care Development Board (PHCDB), Mrs. Shola Ogunsanwo and Yemisi Fashola, expressed satisfaction at the turnout of people urged them to encourage their friends and families who were yet to get vaccinated to seize the opportunity while it lasted, adding that the campaign would be replicated in other Local Government Areas.

“So we are here at Sayedero Garage. Last week, we had ‘Campus Storm’ in our tertiary institutions. Today, we are doing ‘Garage Storm’ to capture transporters, Motorcycle riders and other market women, in order to achieve our 70 percent target”, she said.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tayo Lawal reiterated that the government remained committed to ensuring unhindered commercial and trading activities due to the pandemic, noting that it had prioritised the wellbeing and safety of its citizenry.

In their contributions, representative, APIN Public Health Initiative, Mr. Michael Ohue and Medical Officer of Health,  Yewa South Local Government, Dr. Taiwo Adebowale advised residents to continue to adhere to the non-pharmacological safety measure of wearing nose masks, hand washing, and social distancing, stressing that it would not only prevent the virus but also keep other diseases at bay.

On her part, the Iyaloja, Sayedero Market, Ilaro, Madam Risikat Ajayi appreciated the State government for taking a proactive step towards ensuring that residents were safe and protected from the pandemic during and after their business activities, promising to encourage those who were to get their jabs.
