Cows Take Over Abuja Road, Impede Vehicular Activities

Published

on

Cows took to major road in Apo area of Abuja on Saturday afternoon, hindering vehicular movement for more than 10 minutes.

The development saw vehicles and motorcycles struggle to sidestep an avoid collusion with the cattle as they lumbered and took over the road just beside Cedacrest Hospital in Apo.

Two herders, who tried to rein in on the cows, also struggled to remain in control of the situation.

At intervals, some of the cows pushed their way through the road, bringing vehicles to an abrupt halt.

The scary scene that ensued was hilarious as much as it was horrific. Some passers-by watched as a particular motorcyclist swerved while trying to dodge a cow whose horn was just inches away from his face.

The development is coming on the heels of vehement agitation for change in style adopted in rearing cattle in the country, with many arguing that the current itinerant and free range grazing method is archaic and not healthy for cow.

Proponents of ranching also said it will help in addressing the long-standing and drawn out crisis between farmers and herders in some part of the country, and also restore peace and stability as the tension that comes with destruction of farms and agricultural produce by cow will be greatly tackled.

In recent weeks, there has been palpable apprehension in some south west states, especially in Ondo and Ogun, following the eviction notice issued to Fulani herdsmen.

In both states, the herdsmen are accused of widespread killing and wanton criminalities.
