BREAKING: Cross River Speaker Impeached Over Misappropriation Of Funds

  • Cross River Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ekom Ayambem, was impeached over allegations of misappropriation of funds.

  • The impeachment was led by Hon. Effiom Ekarika and seconded by Hon. Omang Charles Omang.

  • Ayambem was elected Speaker in June 2023 and represents Ikom 2 State Constituency.

EKO HOT BLOG reports the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ekom Ayambem, has been impeached.

He was removed from office on Wednesday by 17 members of the House who accused him of misappropriation of funds.

The impeachment motion was initiated by Hon. Effiom Ekarika, representing Calabar South 1 Constituency, and was seconded by Hon. Omang Charles Omang, who represents Bekwarra State Constituency.

Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem was elected Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly in June 2023. He represents Ikom 2 State Constituency in the House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, Chadian Prime Minister Succes Masra has announced his resignation from the incumbent government led by the newly elected Junta leader, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

“I’ve just submitted my resignation and that of the transitional government, which became irrelevant with the end of the presidential election,” Masra confirmed in a terse statement to AFP.

He insisted on his victory in the election, which his party denounced as a “masquerade,” a sentiment echoed by international human rights organizations who had expressed doubts about the credibility and fairness of the electoral process.
