CUPP Laments Delay In Constituting Supreme Court Justices To Preside Over Atiku's Appeal

The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has expressed worried over the delay in naming Supreme Court Justices that would preside over Atiku’s appeal.
It could be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, presidential candidate in the last general election had filed an appeal suit challenging the verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal affirming the victory of the All Progressive Congress APC, presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.
Meanwhile, the apex Court has fixed October 30 for the hearing of the suit.
The CUPP Spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, expressed the worry in a press conference in Owerri on Saturday.
He said “The Supreme Court has, about 16 days ago, fully received all the filings on the appeal and the Supreme Court have, on or before November 11, 2019,, which is 15 days from today, to deliver judgment on the appeal of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, challenging (President Muhammadu) Buhari’s victory.”
The coalition party stressed that the apex court had only “15 days to the deadline, for judgment in such appeal to be delivered or the case is dead.”
The coalition further said “This development is very worrisome to the opposition political parties, as critical stakeholders in the national democracy. We can only, therefore, infer that this lingering delay in constituting the panel, is capable of compromising the interest of opposition Coalition candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.”
CUPP vows to disregard any appointment of Justices that violates the long standing tradition of seniority in such appointment.
The coalition said “we shall declare a total lack of confidence in any panel constituted in violation of the age-long order of seniority.”
