Customs Officer, Wife, Four Children Perish in Early Morning Inferno

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday as a devastating fire claimed the lives of a customs officer, Tijani Kabiru, his wife, and four of their children in Ede, Osun State.

The fire, reportedly caused by a spark from a solar panel, engulfed their home in the Akankan area of the Olowopoku community. The incident, which occurred around 3:21 a.m., left the community in shock and mourning.

The couple’s 13-year-old son was the sole survivor. He had been awake studying for an upcoming examination when the fire broke out. Despite his desperate attempts to save his father and siblings, he was unable to rescue them from the inferno.

Adekunle Ibraheem, spokesperson for the Osun Fire Service, confirmed the incident. He stated that firefighters from the Osun State Fire Service and the Ede Zonal Command responded promptly but could not prevent the loss of lives.

The victims included four children—three boys and one girl—aged between 3 and 10 years old. Their bodies, along with those of their parents, were recovered and handed over to the police.

This heartbreaking incident has plunged the community into grief, with neighbors and friends expressing their condolences and offering prayers for the bereaved family.
