Eko Hot Blog reports that the Nigeria Customs Service Oyo/Osun Area Command has intercepted fake pharmaceuticals worth N1.7 billion in Ibadan.
Area Controller Dr Ben Oramalugo disclosed that the command seized 53 sacks containing contraband Augmentin tablets, Ampiclox and Amoxycillin capsules with a duty paid value of N1,739,000,000.
Oramalugo made this known on Thursday at the command’s headquarters during the 2024 second press conference. He stated that from February 1-27, 2024, the command collected N5,664,295,751.15. Added to January’s N6,824,954,338.96, the total collection so far in 2024 is N12,489,250,090.11.
Other seizures include 345 bags of foreign parboiled rice worth N24,218,000; 344 kegs of premium motor spirit valued at N5,728,500; 4kg of cannabis sativa at N126,000; and 1,309 used tyres valued at N70,140,000.
Oramalugo said: “Despite prevailing economic challenges, the command’s officers have diligently collected duties and taxes per the NCS mandate. The revenue reflects our commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability.”
He added: “We have strategically positioned anti-smuggling operations to ensure total enforcement of the federal government’s border closure policy.”
Oramalugo appreciated the NCS leadership, officers, and security agencies including the army, air force, police, DSS, NDLEA and Amotekun for collaboration. He thanked Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde for his support.
