Customs Speaks On Attacks In Oyo Communities
- The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has spoken about the attacks in the Ibarapa Local Government of Oyo State.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confirmed the clash between the residents of Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State and some of its officers on Friday night.
It would be recalled that the operatives of the NCS were alleged to have been responsible for the killings in Oyo State on Friday.
The men of the Customs Service were said to have attacked Igangan in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo and Igbo-Ora in the Ibarapa Central LGA where no fewer than three persons were reported dead.
However, the spokesman of the Zone A of Customs, Theophilus Duniya, has confirmed the incident.
Duniya noted that the NCS operatives encountered some rice smugglers in Igbo-Ora who engaged them in a gun battle.
He said, “Three Customs Officers and a soldier on duty were injured in an unprovoked attack by smugglers in Igbo-Ora area of Ibarapa Local Government, Oyo State in the evening hours of Friday, July 16, 2021, at about 8:00 pm.

“The injured officers on Friday sighted eight trucks carrying smuggled foreign parboiled rice. When trying to stop the trucks, the passengers who accompanied the trucks fully armed, launched an attack on the officers.
“One of the attackers was shot and disarmed while the others retreated with their smuggled wares.
“While investigations are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the attackers, all the attacked Customs Officers and soldier, including one that was shot in the head, are receiving treatment.
“Acting Controller of the Unit, DC Usman Yahaya, condemns the attack and reiterates the uncompromising resolve of the Service to suppress smuggling.
“The Unit, according to the Acting Controller, will never relent or be intimidated by this unwarranted attacks by criminal elements unlawfully bearing arms and unleashing same on officers on legitimate duties,” the NCS spokesman stated.
