Abike Dabiri Hails Abia State For Launching First Diaspora Commission In Nigeria

  • The NiDCOM Boss, who championed the establishment of a Diaspora Commision at the Federal level, has hailed Abia State Parliamentarians for their initiative.
  • According to her, Abians at home and abroad will now be able to work seamlessly and contribute to the rapid development of the state.

The Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has lauded Abia State for taking the initiative to set up its own diaspora commission, the first at the state level to do so.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, this was contained in a statement in Abuja by the Head of Media and Public Relations of NIDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

The NIDCOM boss said Abians have made history with the passage of the bill by the Abia state House of Assembly.

Dabiri-Erewa, a former Lawmaker at the Federal House of Representatives whose relentless efforts led to the establishment of the commission at the Federal level expressed her appreciation to the Abia Parliamentarians as well as the Diaspora friendly Governor of the state, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

She equally thanked Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Ogbonna-Erondu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters and Special Duties for her diligence and consistency in ensuring the passage of the bill.

She urged other states in the country to emulate Abia state as the commission will provide a veritable platform to tap into the enormous human resources of diaspora Nigerians.

According to her, Abians at home and abroad will now be able to work seamlessly and contribute to the rapid development of the state.

The bill, H.A.B. 21 tagged: “The Abians in Diaspora Commission Bill, 2020, was sponsored by Hon. Onyekwere Mike Ukoha representing Arochukwu state constituency.

According to the Speaker, ” Honourable Colleagues, this law might be cited as ” The Abians in Diaspora Commission Law and shall come into force this day 22nd of March, 2021″, he said.
