Dabiri-Erewa Receives 94 Stranded Nigerians From Lebanon Amidst Praises

There was light at the end of the dark tunnel for the 94 stranded Nigerian ladies in Lebanon as they were received eventually flown back to Nigeria on Wednesday, 12 August 2020.

The aircraft, Middle East Airlines that conveyed the returnees touched down at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport and were ushered into the arrival hall after observing Airport formalities.

On the ground to welcome them was the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon Abike Dabiri, who was joined by the Senior Special Assistant to Oyo State Government on Diaspora, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu with representatives of NEMA and NAPTIP.

Addressing reporters, Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa expressed profound appreciation to the Federal Government for arranging a Middle East Airline special flight to bring the girls back home.

She disclosed that besides the 94 that had arrived, another 104 were being expected in a few days while others are billed to arrive next week through Abuja

The Chairman equally revealed that all the ladies were tested for COVID-19, and the results returned negative.

She advised young Nigerians that may still be nursing the ambition of traveling illegally to foreign countries rescind from such decision, adding that it was not worth the trouble to behold, considering the ravaging impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global space which has contributed to the beaming searchlight of illegal travelers

On their part, the returnees expressed their sincere expression to Hon Dabiri-Erewa and the Government of Nigeria for responding promptly to their plights and ensuring that they returned home safely.

The Special Assistant to the Oyo State Government confirmed that 55 Oyo State indigenes were among the 94 returnees.

They have since been placed on 14 days isolation as stipulated by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, after which they will be integrated into the society.
