Eko Hot Blog reports that the lead-up to the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting was marred by intense debates over whether Damagum, who assumed the acting chairmanship after the suspension of Iyorchia Ayu, should maintain his position or be replaced.

“The court’s decision followed a request by a PDP member, Terhide Utaan, triggered by a prior vote of no confidence passed on Ayu by his ward executives in Igyorov ward, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State,” the report stated.
Despite calls from 60 members of the House of Representatives for Damagum’s ouster and the appointment of a substantive chairman from the North Central region, the party’s National Caucus ultimately endorsed Damagum’s continued acting role. “Ologunagba disclosed that the PDP National Caucus endorsed Damagum’s continued acting role to allow for broader consultations,” the report noted.
However, the decision was not without dissent. The PDP Caucus meeting in the House of Representatives on Tuesday ended in discord, with lawmakers divided between those supporting Damagum’s continuation and those opposing it.

Ologunagba emphasized the party’s commitment to unity and adhering to its constitution, stating, “Our aim is to take actions that promote unity and are by our constitution.”
As the PDP navigates these internal power struggles, the fate of Damagum’s chairmanship remains uncertain, with the party’s NEC set to make the final decision on the leadership question.
