Danfo Buses Evicted From Lekki-Epe Corridor, Supplanted By BRI

Danfo buses are set to be taken off the Lekki-Epe corridor.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government has announced steps to enhance its public transportation system with the launch of the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI).

EDITOR’S PICKS

The plan includes a ban on the traditional Danfo buses on the Lekki-Epe corridor.

Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, said this initiative aims to improve commuting for Lagos residents, ensuring a more comfortable, efficient, and safe transportation experience.

The primary goal of the BRI is to overhaul the current commercial bus system, replacing outdated Danfo buses with modern mass transit alternatives.

As a pilot project, mass transit buses will be introduced along the Lekki-Epe corridor, offering a more reliable and efficient mode of transportation for commuters.

Meanwhile, danfo buses that meet Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) standards will operate as mid-capacity buses.

Likewise, compliant Korope buses will be integrated into the First Mile Last Mile services to serve interior roads from Obalende/CMS to Ajah, specifically Eleko.

Moreover, drivers of Danfo and Korope buses will undergo rigorous professional training, and the vehicles will be subject to strict roadworthiness checks to ensure safety.

Also, an e-ticketing system will be introduced, streamlining the payment process and reducing the inconvenience of cash transactions.

The initiative will equally tackle issues of illegal passenger pickups and unauthorized bus stops, ensuring a more organized and lawful public transport system.

The Lagos governor’s transportation aide assured the public that there is no cause for alarm.
