Dangote Discloses Reasons for Delayed Petrol Production

Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, revealed that petrol production at the Dangote Refinery was interrupted due to the fire outbreak on June 26.

Initially, Dangote had announced on May 18 that the refinery would commence petrol production, aiming to eliminate the need for Nigeria to import the product.

However, on June 11, he reported a minor delay, postponing the start of petrol supply to July.

Speaking to journalists at the refinery in Lagos on Saturday, Africa’s richest man updated the timeline, stating that premium motor spirit (PMS) would now be available by August.

“PMS was supposed to be out by July, but we had a fire incident,” Dangote explained.

EDITOR’S PICK:

“The incident disrupted us for a few days, but by the latest 10th or 12th of August, PMS will be ready,” he assured.

Recall that Anthony Chiejina, spokesperson for Dangote Industries Limited, stated that the fire occurred at the effluent treatment plant (ETP), a facility designed to purify industrial wastewater for reuse and to release safe water into the environment.
