A senior official from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has responded to reports that the Dangote Refinery will sell petrol to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) at ₦766 per litre.
The official, speaking anonymously, explained that while the base price of ₦766 is set by the refinery, additional costs like transportation, levies, and operational expenses could push the retail price higher.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that He projected that petrol might sell at ₦790 per litre in Lagos and up to ₦820 in the northern parts of the country due to the longer transportation distances.
This reaction follows reports of the Dangote Refinery preparing to start sales, with 300 trucks from NNPC scheduled to begin loading petrol by September 15, 2024. Currently, some marketers in certain Nigerian states are selling petrol as high as ₦1,005 per litre.
The President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), Gillis-Harry, confirmed that while his group had not yet been officially informed about the pricing from Dangote, they welcome the reduced rate.
He mentioned that marketers currently purchase petrol from NNPC at ₦870 per litre, and a cheaper alternative from Dangote would be more favorable. However, he expressed concerns that the refinery has not yet engaged with key retail stakeholders.
