Davido: I’ve Received Go-ahead To Set Up SARS Re-training, Re-deployment Panel

Davido, Nigerian artiste born David Adeleke, says he has received permission to set up an independent panel that will oversee the retraining and redeployment of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) officials.

The singer held a meeting with Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), on Monday.

In a broadcast on Sunday, Adamu announced that the unit’s dissolution after Nigerians in the country and in the diaspora protested attacks by SARS officials.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Davido said the IGP reaffirmed that SARS was no more and the police now have no reason to confiscate people’s phones in any stop and search routine.

“They will be brought to justice. The reform, we need to see it,” the singer said.

“The IG has given me the assurance and directive to set up my own independent panel that will be overseeing the redeployment of the SARS officers.

“But SARS is over. There should be no reason for us to see the police ask anyone to submit their phone. That is done.”

Over the past few days, indigenous celebrities including Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Falz, and Runtown, joined their fans on the streets to protest attacks by the police unit.

The movement has since gained global attention as multiple accounts and video evidence alleging extortion and brutality continue to surface.

Foreign entertainers such as Drake, Trey Songz, Stefflon Don, Nasty C, Lil Baby, and Chance The Rapper have also joined the movement.
