Speaking during an interview, Tom Taylor, the writer of the series said
“The idea of replacing Clark Kent with another straight white savior felt like a missed opportunity,”
“A new Superman had to have new fights, real world problems, that he could stand up to as one of the most powerful people in the world,”
Tom also remarked that this new revelation in Superman is keeping with the values the character has always represented and importantly, reflects the experiences of many comic fans.
“Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice,” Taylor said in a statement. “Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
Reacting to the update, the author of Superman Glen Weldon, noted that changes like this in comic books lead to more vibrant story telling.
“Any step that can be taken to make the world on the superhero comics page look more like the world outside of it is good,” he said.
The particulars of the issue’s plot are to be revealed in November, but images from the comic show Kent and Nakamura sharing a kiss and sitting together atop a building with their legs dangling off the edge.
This new development has sparked different reactions ranging from anger, disappointment and excitement from the comic lovers.
