Deadly Kwara Clash: Two Killed, Many Injured
A deadly altercation has broken out between the Ndeji and Lema communities in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Sources indicate that the violence is rooted in a longstanding land dispute that has kept tensions high between the two groups resulting in the loss of two lives.
The situation escalated when rumors spread that the Emir of Lafiagi intended to allocate the contested land to the Lema community.
This news alarmed the Ndeji people, leading to a violent outbreak. “The fight started when there was a rumour flying around that Emir of Lafiagi is plotting to give the land in dispute to Lema people. And you know our people (Nupe tribe), they believe in charms, and this is why they started the violence immediately the rumour spread,” a local source recounted.
The clash left Mohammed Alhaji and Aliu Hussain dead, with at least seven others injured.
The situation became even more tragic as reports revealed that one of the deceased, Alhaji, was a Kwara Polytechnic student close to finishing his studies.

In response to the violence, the Kwara State Police, led by Commissioner Victor Olaiya, confirmed the arrest of individuals believed to be involved in the killings.
Commissioner Olaiya assured the public that those responsible are now in custody, easing some of the community’s anxieties.
“The crisis is between the communities that are sandwiched between two major communities of Lafiagi and Gbugbu; they are suddenly at two others’ throats. The police intervened, but unfortunately, two lives were lost, and two suspects have been arrested,” Commissioner Olaiya stated.
He further explained, “The conflict escalated further when the attackers began shooting at those who came to rescue the Chief Imam, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals and injuries to seven others.”
