Death Came and Took My Brother Of 25Years away-Chiamaka Silas (The Deceased’s Sister)

  • Mr Aboy Nwanem electrocuted in his home
  • Poor Healthcare identified as one of the Causes of Death

Tragedy struck on New Year’s Eve as a man addressed as Aboy Nwanem was electrocuted in his home, leading to his untimely death after a delay in receiving adequate medical care.

The heartbreaking incident was revealed in a Facebook video shared by the deceased’s sister, Ms. Chiamaka Silas. The video captured scenes of Aboy’s body being moved to various locations in a desperate search for treatment before being transported to a mortuary.

According to Ms. Chiamaka, the electrocution occurred when Aboy came into contact with a new electricity extension cord he had purchased earlier that day. A loud noise from his apartment alerted family members, who rushed to find him lying unconscious on the floor with the exposed extension on his chest.

“We were inside and heard a loud noise from his apartment. We ran out only to find an open extension on his chest. He was electrocuted,” Ms. Chiamaka recounted.

In her post, she explained that she quickly turned off the electricity supply, but Aboy was already weak. Despite their efforts to administer first aid, his condition did not improve.

The family then embarked on a frantic journey to seek medical help, but their pleas were met with numerous obstacles. “We rushed him to hospitals, but you know about Nigerian hospitals. They said no oxygen, others said no doctors, some declared him dead without even touching him,” Ms. Chiamaka lamented.

Although one hospital eventually provided oxygen, it was too late, and Aboy succumbed to his injuries.

The tragic loss has drawn an outpouring of condolences from Nigerians online, with many expressing grief and frustration over the state of healthcare in the country. The incident highlights the critical need for improved emergency response and healthcare infrastructure to prevent such avoidable deaths in the future.
