EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Offa robbery incident occurred in 2018, and the case has seen significant developments over the years. Notably, a witness, Shamsudeen Bada, previously accused members of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by the embattled DCP Abba Kyari, of torturing him to implicate former Senate President Bukola Saraki in the robbery.
Baba made these allegations during the resumed trial of the suspects in Ilorin, the state capital, where he recounted his harrowing experience. The suspects—Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, and two others—faced charges of criminal conspiracy to rob banks, the murder of nine policemen and other citizens, and illegal possession of firearms.
During cross-examination, Baba revealed that while in detention, the IRT operatives, led by Kyari, had promised him and others that they would be released if they named Saraki as their sponsor.
