At least ten people were injured on in a road accident involving a bus belonging to the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. The incident occurred on Otedola Bridge, inward 7-Up, in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The victims, comprising three adult males and seven adult females, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were promptly transported to the Trauma Center for urgent medical attention.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the crash was caused by a brake failure, which resulted in the bus colliding with a stationary 40-foot container truck.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the details in a statement, noting that the agency received a distress call at 6:40 a.m. and deployed its Tiger Response Team from the Alausa base to the scene within ten minutes.
“Upon arrival at 0650hrs, LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team discovered that a branded long bus, registration number MUS-176XC, had crashed into a stationary truck. Investigations revealed that the bus driver lost control due to brake failure, leading to the accident,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Passengers who escaped without injuries were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
The accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by vehicular malfunctions on Lagos roads. It occurred less than 24 hours after another crash left five people seriously injured on Christmas Day. That incident, which took place at Iyana-Era, inward Agbara, along the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway, involved two commercial buses.
Reports indicated that one of the buses was speeding toward Agbara when it experienced brake failure and collided with another bus that was stationary and loading passengers by the roadside.
The Lagos State government and emergency responders continue to emphasize the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragic incidents. Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, especially during the festive season when traffic is typically heavy.
Authorities have not released the names of the injured victims but assured the public that they are receiving the best possible care at the Trauma Center.
