Defamation Saga: Mercy Chinwo Threatens N2 Billion Lawsuit

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Gospel artist Mercy Chinwo has threatened to take legal action against singer Obidiz for derogatorily using her name and image in a secular music audio and video. The gospel crooner has ordered Obidiz to take down the music audio and video from all music digital platforms or face a N2 billion lawsuit.

Obidiz released a commercial for a song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’ on February 10, 2023, with the gospel artist’s picture as the cover image.

In response, Mercy Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, wrote a letter to Obidiz on March 23, ordering him to take down the offensive content from all music digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and any other platform.

The letter stated, “It came to our client’s rude shock that you recently released and published a song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’ containing disparaging and derogatory lyrics…” It added, “That you take down or cause to be taken down, the song titled ‘Mercy Chinwo’ which you published on be taken down immediately from all music digital platforms.”

The gospel singer’s lawyers have directed Obidiz to comply with their client’s demands promptly. Failure to do so will result in legal action, including approaching the court of law to award damages against him to the tune of N2 billion in favor of their client.
