EKO HOT BLOG reports that reports indicate that Lakurawa’s activities in Kebbi’s Augie Local Government Area have led to the deaths of at least 15 people and the theft of over 100 cows, raising concerns about security in the area. The violence has added to the already tense security situation in the region.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Hausa, Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar confirmed that the federal government is deploying additional troops and resources to combat the growing threat posed by the group.
New strategies are being implemented to restore peace and stability in the affected areas.
“The acting Chief of Army Staff has assessed the situation on the ground and coordinated with other service chiefs to formulate an action plan,” Abubakar said. “With the support of additional troops and advanced equipment, we are determined to neutralize this terror group.”
He also noted that key defense leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, have come together to develop a comprehensive approach to tackle the threat.
“We are confident that with strategic measures and the continued support of Nigerians, we will overcome this security challenge,” Abubakar stated.
The minister acknowledged that, while there have been significant security gains over the past year, the evolving tactics of hostile groups require the government to continuously adapt its response.
He expressed optimism that these efforts would prevent the spread of violence to neighboring states and ultimately restore lasting peace to the region.
