EKO HOT BLOG reports that a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has rejected the suit aimed at vacating the seats of 25 lawmakers who switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Presided over by Justice Okogbule Gbasam, the judgment concluded that the lawmakers remain members of the PDP, as the claimants failed to provide evidence required by law to establish their membership in the All Progressives Congress.
Earlier reports from The Nation had indicated that on Friday, May 30, a Rivers State High Court had declared the seats of the 25 lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC as vacant, pending the resolution of a lawsuit.
The court, however, ordered the Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, to stop parading as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and barred the 24 lawmakers, who are all Anti-Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of the state, from posing as lawmakers in the state.
