Delta 2023: See The Top 5 PDP Aspirants Likely to Succeed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
- As the 2023 Delta State Governorship Election draws near, the battle over who succeeds Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has commenced in earnest
- Several political gladiators have declared their respective Interest in the number one Seat.
Taking into consideration, financial strength, popularity and acceptance, The Top 5 PDP Aspirants that could succeed Okowa in 2023 include
(1.) Senator James Manager
Manager, 60 is a Fifth-term Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
After several years of legal practice, He became the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area in 1991 and later served as Commissioner for Social Development from 1992 to 1993 and then Chairman of the Grassroot Development Movement between 1996 and 1998.
Manager was the Pioneer Chairman of the Delta State PDP, he served between 1998 and 1999 and thereafter became the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, a position he held until his Election as Senator in 2003. He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power.
(2.) Hon. David Edevbie
Edevbie, 57 made an entry into Nigeria’s Political Space in 1999 after he flew home from the United Kingdom to assume Office as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning under the Administration of Chief James Ibori.
His brilliant performance propelled him to national reckoning when he was appointed as the Director of Finance and Administration of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organization in 2007.
Edevbie was later appointed as as Principal Secretary when Umaru Musa Yar’adua (Now Late) was elected as President in 2007, serving until April 2010.
Again in 2015, He was called upon to serve the Ifeanyi Okowa-led Administration as Commissioner for Finance, a position he held until 2019 before his appointment as Chief of Staff to the Delta State Government.
(3.) Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi
Gbagi, 62 is a Criminologist, Lawyer, Enterpreneur and Politician. The Former Minister of State for Education and 2015 PDP Governorship Aspirant was the Pioneer Chairman of Delta Development and Property Authority (DDPA) from 1993 to 1994.
Gbagi, a close associate of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo served as Chairman of Legal Aid Council during his (Obasanjo) Administration.
(4.) Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori
Oborevwori, 54 is the Incumbent Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. The Osubi-born Politician began his political career as a Councillor in Okpe Local Government Council in 1996.
He was elected as member of the Delta State House of Assembly in 2015 to represent Okpe State Constituency. Oborevwori was later elected as Speaker of the Sixth Assembly.
After he won a re-election in 2019, he was unanimously returned as Speaker of the 7th Assembly making him the first member of the House to be elected as Speaker in his Second-term.
(5.) Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro
Otuaro, 52 hails from Oporoza, Warri South-west Local Government Area of Delta State. The Lawyer turned Politician was a one-time Chairman of Warri-Ijaw-Itsekiri Grassroot Peace Front.
His impressive performance earned him an appointment as Special Assistant on Community Affairs to Former Governor, James Ibori in 2005.
He later served as Commissioner representing Ijaw Ethnic Nationality on the Board of DESOPADEC from 2011 to 2014.
Otuaro became the Deputy Governor of Delta State in May 2015, a position he is still serving till date.
