About nine cult-related deaths have been recorded in five days in Asaba, Delta State, in addition to three in Warri, which are alleged to be reprisals by rival cults.
Two young men were said to have been killed in Asaba on Tuesday.
PUNCH Metro gathered that one of the deceased, simply identified as Nnamdi, was shot dead at the Stop Abortion junction.
Nnamdi, who was an employee of the Oshimili South Local Government Area of the state, according to a source, was shot multiple times by the gunmen.
The source said, “About four boys just alighted from a vehicle around 7pm and people started running for safety upon hearing gunshots.
“I was inside my shop when I saw the victim trying to mount a motorcycle and suddenly, two men out of four, who were in a car, walked to him and shot him repeatedly till he died.
“Almost at the same time, another unidentified man was also shot dead by gunmen around 7.20pm opposite a popular church along Ibusa Road, Asaba.
“Two boys on a motorcycle blocked a man opposite the Winner’s Chapel, Ibusa Road, and shot him and he fell in the gutter.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed Nnamdi’s killing, but said she had yet to get a report on the Ibusa Road incident.
She disclosed that three suspects had been arrested so far in relation to the cult killings in the state.
“The command is on the trail of the fleeing suspects; there is a particular person we are looking for, but we have yet to arrest him,” the PPRO stated.
