Delta Govt Pays Bills Of Agbor Gas Explosion Victims

Delta State Government says it has deposited N3m at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State, as payment for the treatment of victims of the Agbor gas explosion.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye, disclosed this on Sunday, stating that they were in Benin on Saturday to ascertain the condition of the victims of the gas explosion.
Recall that over 10 persons lost their lives while many sustained various degrees of injuries during the Friday night gas explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Ononye assured the relatives and patients at the hospital of government’s resolve to stand by them and promised that the state government would not abandon them.
He said, “On hearing of the explosion, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa immediately directed us to visit the victims with the view to getting firsthand information on their welfare and also assist them with money for their treatment.
“The governor’s good gesture was borne out of the fact that he has compassion for the wellbeing of Deltans and residents alike.
“For those who had made one payment or the other for treatment since they were referred to the hospital, the state government will see to it that they get refunded.”
