Eko Hot Blog reports that the Delta State House of Assembly has made a significant move by passing a motion aimed at prohibiting the activities of sex workers throughout the state.
The motion, introduced on the floor of the House of Assembly, was a response to growing concerns about the escalating prevalence of open sex trade and the use of illicit drugs among young people in the region.
According to Sahara Reporters, the motion’s sponsor, Bridget Anyafulu, who represents the Oshimili South constituency, underscored the urgent need to address these pressing issues and implement measures to apprehend sex workers and young individuals engaged in illicit drug activities.

The motion garnered support from fellow lawmakers, including Marilyn Daramola-Okowa, who represents the Ika North East constituency, along with legislators such as Pekins Umukoro and Emeka Nwaobi.
The lawmakers have called upon Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to direct relevant government agencies to conduct training, advocacy campaigns, and awareness programs. Additionally, they have suggested offering counseling, rehabilitation services, and placing informative posters in strategic locations across the state to educate the public about the risks associated with engaging in the commercial sex trade and illicit drug use.
Furthermore, they have urged their support for law enforcement agencies to ensure the apprehension and prosecution of those involved in selling illicit drugs, sex workers, and young individuals participating in the consumption of banned substances. These actions, they believe, should be taken in full compliance with the existing laws of the state.
