The Delta State Commissioner of Police Special Squad recovered a Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, a pump-action shotgun with nine cartridges, and a locally made revolver from the suspect.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the details in a statement. He explained that on August 12, 2024, at around 4:30 AM, the CP Special Squad, while investigating with Ofoye—who had been arrested on July 18—was led to Ewu Community in search of a gunrunner who had supplied arms to the gang.
SP Edafe stated, “During the operation, the team came under attack by the suspect’s gang members attempting to free Ofoye. The police overpowered the attackers, who fled with bullet injuries. Ofoye, however, was injured in the gunfight and later died at the General Hospital in Ughelli while receiving treatment.”
A manhunt for the fleeing suspects is currently underway.
