The Chairman, Jema’a LG Area of Kaduna State Mr. Peter Danjuma Averik has congratulated the people of the area and other patriots of democracy across Nigeria on the event of Democracy Day, set aside to celebrate the collective struggle and desires to entrenching the ideals of democratic practice in Nigeria.
In a press statement, Mr Averik identifies with the governor of Kaduna State, Mal.Nasir Ahmed El’rufai, his Deputy, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and the Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt, Hon Zailani Yusuf Ibrahim on the memorable occasion.
The statement explains that, Besides the celebration of political successes and relative growth of democracy and democratic institutions in the country, the occasion challenges Nigerians to soberly reflect on the democratic journey and jettison political conducts which are distracting capable of frustrating the quest for entrenching ideal democratic culture in the political process and engagements.

It states that the practice of rich democratic ideals entails the encouragement and allowing people’s participation in all political processes and governance, to allow people unfettered access to the administrative dealings and involve them in major decision-making processes especially on issues that have direct bearings on their social and economic well-being.
Mr. Averik expresses worry that as efforts are being made amidst low financial profile to reposition the local government to an enviable administrative reference point in the state, there are experiences of violent insurgents attacks and banditry in some peaceful communities perpetrated by evil men to disrupt the relative peace and inter-communal understanding existing in the local government.
He points out however, that the dubious activities of insurgents, kidnapping and banditry can be tackled in Jema’a Local Government with sustained community and security vigillance as well as collaborations with the security operatives through timely and reliable report of suspicious movements and threats of dangers in the communities.
“While we shall continue, as government at the grass-root, to do our best to ensure the existence of peace and harmonious co-existence in our communities, I call on the traditional and religious leaders to preach peace and prevail on their people to eschew all forms of bitterness, embrace peace and tolerance in other to make our local government a happy home for all.
“I want to use this opportunity to once again commend Nigeria Early Recovery Initiative (NERI) for their peace and confidence-building interventions in Jema’a local government. I am most happy that their reconciliatory engagements with communities are yielding the desired intents. I, therefore, urge community peace actors and leaders to support USAID/NERI in their efforts for peace in Jema’a local government.
Averik enjoined Nigerians regardless of tribe or religion to embrace peace with one another toward ensuring a progressive and United Nation.
