Expressing his concern on X after an inspection tour was carried out , he stated that a requisite notice will be served to last for seven days and that a meeting will be held with the GOC and Commander of the Barracks to carry out demolition of all structures obstructing water ways .
‘’The flooding is caused majorly by the recklessness of a few people. After our inspection tour, we will give a requisite notice to owners of structures built on canals and waterways in the Ikoyi , Obalende, Awoyaya axis. In a few days, these structures will be demolished to give way for the waste water so as to find a solution to the flooding issues.
“For obalende , we realized that everywhere has been turned to a motor park. The path created for the canal is blocked. So for me the assignment is very clear. We are going to serve them a notice to leave so that we can have the place cleared as well”.
“People have forgotten that the environment is the master of man. We have had petitions coming in for the past few weeks about people building on the canal so we just came to verify and the sight is not encouraging at all. There are sides that have been served notices already, demolition will begin on Monday with those areas’’, he clarified.

If we are not careful water will spoil this road and now these are tax payers funds. We cannot use illegality to create legality. You can’t put something on nothing, it will not stand. These are squatters most times and once you built on canal path you have to go”.
Committed to creating a cleaner Lagos, Wahab has been atop sanitation measures in the past weeks. Clean up exercises have been carried out in Oyingbo Market, Obalende Underbridge, Ilubirin Canal, Lagos island and removal of shanties at Orchid Junction On the Lekki-Epe expressway.
