Job Description
The Dangote Group is seeking a skilled Deputy General Manager, Operations (Power Plant) to oversee and manage its gas-based power plant operations. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability of the plant while leading and mentoring a team of operational staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all operational activities of the gas-based power plant.
- Ensure the plant operates efficiently within its designed parameters.
- Develop and implement strategies to meet production targets and minimize downtime.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to minimize equipment failures and unplanned shutdowns.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Promote a safety culture by implementing protocols and conducting training programs.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, operators, and support staff.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and foster interdepartmental communication.
- Analyze operational data to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Implement advanced technologies and best practices to enhance plant performance.
- Prepare and manage the plant’s operational budget.
- Oversee resource allocation to maintain cost-effectiveness.
- Develop risk management and contingency plans for operational emergencies.
- Conduct root cause analyses for incidents and enforce corrective actions.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 24 years in power plant operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience with gas turbine-based power plants is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of power plant systems and processes.
- Expertise in performance management and operational efficiency.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SCADA, DCS, and other plant control systems.
- Strong communication and ability to work under pressure.
