Despite Apologizing, UK Prime Minister Under Fire For Attending Party During Lockdown

  • Despite apologizing, UK Prime Minister under fire for attending party during lockdown

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the United Kingdom’s prime minister, Boris Johnson, is under fire for attending a party at Downing street, during lockdown, even after he apologized for doing such, claiming he never knew it was a party he was attending.

At the start of the weekly session of Prime Minister’s Questions, Johnson said he did attend a gathering for 25 minutes before going inside to work. He said he believed the gathering to be a work event, but with hindsight conceded he should have sent attendees back inside.

His excuses however didn’t impress a lot of people, especially the opposition parties in the UK, with some of them insisting that the prime minister’s excuse was ridiculous.

Labour leader Keir Starmer, called on UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign over the party, a suggestion Douglas Ross, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives also shared.

“If he has breached his own guidance, if he has not been truthful, then that is an extremely important issue. If the Prime Minister has misled Parliament, then he must resign,” Douglas Ross, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives told reporters on Tuesday.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently said in a statement to Parliament that he wanted to apologize over a drinks party held at 10 Downing Street during the country’s first lockdown.

“I know the rage they feel with me and with the government I lead when they think in Downing Street the rules are not being properly followed by the people they make the rules. I must take responsibility,”,” Johnson said.
