Eko Hot Blog reports that Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Health and Social Welfare, has asked Nigerians in the diaspora to allow their children visit Lagos in December for “Detty December”.
“Detty December” is a cultural celebration in Lagos in December of each year that attracts people from the Nigerian diaspora for a month of festivities.
Addressing the Annual Convention of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) in California, United States, over the weekend, Dr. Alausa said Lagos is the place to be in December.
“Today, I met with some of our young colleagues; medical students and residents. I encouraged them to come to Lagos in December. Detty December; that is the place to be. Lagos is the place to be in December,” he said.
“Come and enjoy the vibes, the luxury of afro music and entertainment that you’ll party from the beginning to the end.
“Please, encourage your kids to come to Lagos in December and enjoy detty December.”
Meanwhile, the minister urged Nigerian physicians in the diaspora to return home and contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria’s healthcare system.
He noted that the current administration has provided opportunities for investments, while encouraging diasporans to take advantage.
“For the first time, we have a president that is determined, committed to move our country forward and I have no doubt that, we are now in the right direction,” Dr. Alausa said.
“I am advising every single ANPA member to seize this opportunity. Nigeria is open for business.
“Come back and harness the opportunity for the development of your country. We don’t have another country, but Nigeria.”
The minister also thanked ANPA for presenting a merit award to him, promising to do more in the pursuit of a robust and resilient healthcare system in Nigeria.
