EKO HOT BLOG reports on Juventus forward, Angel Di Maria’s accusations of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) overlooking Lionel Messi and giving Kylian Mbappe all powers at the club following his rumored move to Real Madrid.
The Argentine winger, who played alongside both players at PSG, believes that the French club offered Mbappe a bumper contract last year, turning a blind eye to Messi, the Argentina captain.
Mbappe, who was on the verge of joining Real Madrid last summer, signed a fresh deal with PSG, making him the highest-paid footballer in the world. This was before Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed him following his move to Al-Nassr in December 2022.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Di Maria said:
“I think France, in general, have given [Kylian] Mbappe a lot of responsibility. The people, the president, PSG. They made him stay when he could’ve left and gave him all the power to be him and no one else. But there is a big difference, they gave him all that power with the best in history [Lionel Messi] next to him.”
Di Maria went on to say that Mbappe was given all the power and strength because he is French, he was born there, won a World Cup and has an extraordinary career ahead of him.
However, he pointed out that when he was at PSG, Mbappe was a good boy and he doesn’t think he has changed so much.
PSG’s decision to offer Mbappe a massive contract while ignoring Messi, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has raised eyebrows.
Many fans and analysts have questioned the wisdom of the club’s strategy, with some suggesting that it may have contributed to Messi’s recent struggles at PSG.
Messi initially had a difficult start to life in Paris, failing to score in his first seven league games for the club, and currently at the moment, Paris Saint Germain haven’t had the best of forms.
They have lost 3 consecutive games, the first time in years with the 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich being their last.
