Didier Deschamps, the coach who led France to World Cup glory in 2018 and captained the team to their 1998 triumph, is reportedly set to announce his departure as head coach of the national team.

According to L’Equipe, Deschamps will conclude his tenure after the 2026 World Cup, marking the end of a remarkable era with Les Bleus.

Despite recent rumours of tensions between Deschamps and team captain Kylian Mbappe, sources close to the coach suggest that his decision to step down was made well before the World Cup.

Deschamps is expected to reveal his decision in a charity interview with France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron.

He leaves a lasting legacy, having guided France to the 2018 World Cup title and led them to another final in 2022, where they narrowly lost to Argentina.
