A non for profit group, Digital World Forum, has honoured the recently crowned global mathematics champion, Faith Odunsi with a scholarship award to study Robotics and Artificial intelligence in furtherance of her incredible talent.

The recipient of the award, Faith Odunsi, a 15-year-old finalist at Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State, gained international fame after she trounced contestants from Europe, America, Asia and Australia to win the Global Open Mathematics tournament.

Astonishingly, not only did Faith win the keenly contested tournament, she did so with a landsliding 30-point margin, clinching 40 points to floor her nearest competitor who came first runner up with 10 points.

Having seen her incredible achievement swept under the misguided euphoria of Grammy award wins by ace Nigerian entertainers, Faith, who desires to further her prodigious talent in a career in Computer Engineering has now seen that dream receive huge lift with the scholarship award by the Digital World Forum, a non for profit group dedicated to supporting young talents embrace the enduring possibilities in the digital world.

During the small ceremony which held in the school premises of the Ambassadors College in Ota, group head of the DWF, Engr. Ajibola Abiola, who spoke with EKO HOT BLOG said that the reason behind the scholarship award is to take a step further from the tokenistic support precocious talents like Faith have been receiving from the government and relevant stakeholders in the past.

“We need to encourage them, we need to build them up from the scratch because they will be very useful to the development of this country,” he said.

He decried the lopsided and misguided attention given to talents in the secular world of entertainment while genuine talents capable of leading the charge to place Nigeria firmly on the launchpad to global reckoning in the world of science and technology continue to be ignored.

“We need our government to really come very powerfully to this area, we need the vault of science and technology to be highly increased, we need a turnaround in this area of our lives. We have relegated science and technology to the background, we have promoted other areas, and that is why we are where we are today,” he added.

Receiving the award, Faith Odunsi, who also spoke with EKO HOT BLOG expressed elation on her big win on the global stage.

“I feel very happy and excited,” she said.

Faith, who had in a previous interview credited her flair for Mathematics to her father’s unyielding support reaffirmed her earlier comments.

“Anytime I told him I had a competition, he would be very happy for me, and anytime I have a question for him he would be ready to answer even in the middle of the night; and anything I need for that competition he would be ready to provide.”

She admitted having cold feet before going into the competition, but ultimately had to jolt herself to bring home the much coveted trophy.

“At first I was very scared because of the participants from other countries and other continents, but later on I just felt like ‘Faith you can do this’ and I practised more.

Also speaking, Mr. Odunsi, Faith’s father, who is a medical doctor by trade extolled his daughter’s irrepressible spirit.

“She’s very studious, very logical, and very calculative so all we just had to do was prop her up and she was up and doing.”
