Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, has lost his mother, Alhaja Monsurat Bankole, who passed away on Friday at the age of 78 after a brief illness.
Alhaja Bankole, known for her devotion to Islam and community service, held several prominent Islamic titles, including Iya Adinni of Egbaland and Iya Sunnah of the Alasalatu Society of Nigeria and West Africa.
She also founded the Al Mönsur Islamic Society, leaving a lasting impact on the Muslim community in Ogun State and beyond.
Her death was announced by Sheik Iskeel Lawal, the Ogun State Governor’s Consultant on Islamic Affairs.
According to the statement, she will be buried in accordance with Islamic rites after Solatul-Asr prayers at her late husband’s residence in Onikoko, Abeokuta.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has expressed his condolences to the Bankole family, describing the deceased as an “amazon of note” and a pillar of strength for her family and community.
In a message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, Abiodun commended her legacy of piety, humanitarian service, and unwavering support for her late husband, Chief Alani Bankole.
“It is heartbreaking to lose yet another distinguished woman of strength and integrity in Ogun State,” the governor stated.
“However, we find comfort in the legacy of piety and humanitarian service that she has left behind. May God Almighty grant her Al Jannah Firdaus.”
