The Pharaohs of Egypt are the best bet for the next edition of African Cup of Nations, as far as former Senegal international, El Hadji Diouf, is concerned.
The former Liverpool attacker said his choice was based on the fact that Egypt will be able to enjoy the total support of their fans during the tournament.
Also sure to bode well for the Pharaohs, in the view of Diouf, an intensely controversial but effective figure in his days, is the presence of Mohamed Salah.
In spite of all, the two-time African Footballer of the Year said he is backing the Teranga Lions of Senegal to spring a surprise based on sentimental feelings.
“I would put Senegal at the top because it is my country and I hope they win the title but there are many other good teams – Egypt will be at the forefront with Morocco and Nigeria,” Diouf said while speaking with Goal.
“Egypt is the strongest candidate for me because they will play in their own country with a lot of fans and they have very good players led by Mohamed Salah.
He’s a very decisive player and has a full country behind him.”
However, the 38-year-old, who led the line for Liverpool just like Salah and compatriot, Mane, feels Salah’s Pharaohs have the edge over his home country and other big names in this year’s upcoming tournament.
