Eko Hot Blog reports that a pastor in charge of Celestial Church of Christ, Grace of Comfort Parish in Omitoto, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Moris Fadehan, was allegedly murdered inside his church by a suspect identified as Lekan Ogundipe, who was the pastor’s second-in-command.
According to sources, it was Ogundipe who drew people’s attention to the partly burnt remains of Pastor Fadehan inside the church on Monday. Ogundipe had run to the house of the church’s founder after allegedly committing the act, telling him that a fire was burning the pastor’s body.
A resident of Omitoto also stated that when he arrived at the scene, Ogundipe told him fire was burning the pastor. The resident noticed blood on Ogundipe’s dress and informed the church founder, before calling the police who later arrested Ogundipe.
The disagreement that led to the tragic killing is unclear, but a source close to the deceased said Pastor Fadehan had retrieved church keys from Ogundipe last Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted a prophetess following a disagreement.
The source said, “Assault on the prophetess occurred last week on Wednesday. Lekan (Ogundipe) assaulted the woman. He bit her, and that got the shepherd angry. Because of the way he acted, the pastor retrieved church keys from him.”
The source added that on Monday when the pastor arrived at the church, Ogundipe attacked him from behind, attempting to cover his face with clothes. A struggle ensued before Ogundipe allegedly hit the pastor in the face with a screwdriver, killing him instantly. He then dragged the body to the generator, doused it in petrol and set it alight.
Osun Police Command has confirmed the incident and says an investigation is underway. Police PRO Yemisi Opalola said Ogundipe was arrested at the scene and the pastor’s remains were deposited at OAUTHC morgue.
