‘Dishonourable Lawmakers’ — Ezekwesili Slams NASS Members Over Palliative, Car Purchases

By Solomon Babawale

Eko Hot Blog reports that the former Minister of Education, Oby Ekwesili, has questioned the conscience of the National Assembly members over reports on the allocation of N70 billion and N40 billion to cater for their needs.

In a series of Twitter posts, she noted that the lawmakers lack empathy as the said amount is bogus considering the economic hardships the country is facing.

Recall that NASS passed an amendment to the supplementary budget, which approves N70.billion as support for working conditions of new lawmakers.

Members of the Senate and House of Representatives are also reportedly on the verge of spending N40 billion to purchase cars for the new members of the red and green chambers of the NASS.

Ezekwesili accused the lawmakers of being dishonourable to satisfy their selfish interests.

“You see those ones void of common sense compassion and empathy; that call themselves Lawmakers of @nassnigeria @NGRSenate @HouseNGR preparing to swallow N70Billion Naira and purchase cars for N40Billion for so-called ‘principal officers’? I pity them ,” she wrote on Twitter.

“These ‘Dishonorable Members’ and ‘Extinguished Senators’ called Nigerian Lawmakers totally lack the wisdom to apply the meaning of ‘enlightened self-interest’ in the manner they conduct public governance.

“A day shall shortly come when Citizens will no longer indulge your excesses.
