EKOHOTBLOG reports that a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba has remanded a dismissed Police Sergeant, Samuel Philips, in prison custody for allegedly killing Monsurat Ojuade in Lagos State.
It was gathered that the ruling by the court was issued hours after the Lagos State Police Command dismissed the officer after an orderly room trial.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Adedayo, said that the 30-year-old policeman be remanded pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
EKOHOTBLOG understands that the defendant was arraigned on a charge of murder, while his plea was not taken.
The prosecutor, Insp Augustine Nwabuisi, further noted that the defendant committed the offence on September 10, 2021, around 11:30 p.m. at No. 5, Mogaji St., Ijeshatedo area of Lagos.
Samuel Philips, EKOHOTBLOG reports, was accused of firing a bullet into the residence of the 18-year-old Monsurat while on an operation.
The bullet, however, hit the admission seeker’s thighs leading to her death within a short period.
This online news platform understands that the offence contravenes Section 223 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015 which stipulates a death sentence.
The case was, therefore, adjourned until October 25 for receipt of legal advice.
